CHAPTER SEVEN

PLAN B

After the raid, the Cynthia sailed back to Sicily. Gil flew the Bell 412 helicopter back to the Sicilian leasing company. Afterward he flew the Bombardier 8000 to Larnaca while the rest of the Praetorians took a well-earned rest aboard Travis’s yacht as it motored east toward Cyprus. Steve and Hans got to work on exploiting Trabelsi’s laptop computer while Sarah reviewed the photographs of the terrorists killed during the raid. She was both disappointed and relieved that there were no female bodies. Nura was not among the dead. While she wanted Nura dead, she wanted to be the one who killed her. She downloaded the photos of the dead terrorists from the team’s cameras onto a laptop. She didn’t recognize any of them but then again, many of them were pretty messed up. When they got back to the villa, she would digitally clean them up and run them through their facial recognition software.

She kept focusing on Trabelsi’s photo. She assessed that he was the leader; he was the oldest, he had his own bunker, someone was protecting him, and he was the only one with a cell phone. Fortunately, the hand grenade that killed him didn’t mangle his face. If he was in any terrorist database, they would identify him. She was happy they recovered his cell phone but the results were a little disappointing. There was the call to the relay in Cairo which they had intercepted. There were also a couple of calls to and from the burner they had identified as Nura’s. She found a few other phone numbers in the call log and a couple more on the SIM card that were not erased when he deleted his call log. She would work on these when they got back to identify more Black Sun operatives.

Nigel’s shoulder wound wasn’t serious. John used his medic kit to clean and irrigate the wound before closing it with staples. He put him on Cefoxitin, the antibiotic he carried in his kit, applied a liberal amount of topical antibiotic, and secured the wound with a battle dressing. Nigel also had a couple of abrasions and serious bruises on his left side where the AK-74 rounds had hit him. He was wearing Level 4 body armor, like everyone else, but the ceramic plates, which provided the bulk of the protection, were on the front and back. The gaps on the sides were only reinforced Kevlar. While they stopped the round’s penetration, his ribs still absorbed most of the impact. John offered him painkillers, but Nigel opted for a bottle of Scotch whiskey instead. He stretched out on the deck along with Lon, Magne, Alen, and John to bask in the Mediterranean sun. There would be more fighting ahead, and they wanted to relax. After an hour or so, Sarah joined them. She wore a black bikini, sunglasses, and a big floppy hat. Despite having worked with her for a long time, the guys still stared as she sauntered by.
